An outside micrometer is constructed as following parts:
1. Frame - It is the main part of the outer diameter micrometer and provides a stable structural basis for measurement.
2. Frame cover - It is mainly used to protect the internal measuring mechanism and scale of the micrometer to prevent damage to the measurement accuracy caused by dust, dirt or careless collisions.
3. Anvil - It is the part of the outside micrometer that is used to contact with the object to be measured and determine the measurement size, usually with a flat or spherical measuring surface in order to accommodate different types of measurement needs, and some outside micrometers may be equipped with interchangeable anvils to accommodate different ranges of measurements.
4. Carbide measuring face - It is a measuring surface made of carbide material on an outer diameter micrometer. Carbide materials are usually extremely hard and wear-resistant, and the measuring surface is in direct contact with the object being measured, which allows the measuring surface to maintain its accuracy and finish even in frequent use.
5. Spindle - It is the core measuring element of the outer micrometer and is used to accurately measure the outer diameter dimensions of objects. When the outer barrel is rotated, the spindle is pushed forward or pushed out accordingly, allowing for an accurate measurement of the outer diameter of the object.
6. Locking device - The locking device can fix the relative position of the micrometer screw and anvil to prevent them from moving due to external forces or vibrations, and is used to ensure that the micrometer reading is stable and accurate during the measurement process.
7. Sleeve - The outer micrometer sleeve usually consists of two parts: a fixed sleeve and a movable sleeve. The fixed sleeve is the basic part of the outer micrometer, which is marked with a tick mark and is used to read the whole part of the measurement.
The movable sleeve is connected to a micrometer screw and can be moved relative to the fixed sleeve for reading the fractional part of the measurement.
8. Thimble - The section used to accurately measure and display dimensions. By rotating the Thimble, we can read very precise measurements.
9. Measuring force device - It is mainly used to apply the appropriate measuring force during the measurement process of the outside micrometer to ensure that there is good contact between the micrometer spindle and the object to be measured, so as to obtain accurate measurement results.
