The advantages of titanium reducers in chemical pipeline systems!

July 3, 2025

With the acceleration of global industrialization, the chemical industry has increasingly strict requirements for the performance of pipeline systems. In extreme environments such as high temperature, high pressure and strong corrosion, traditional pipe materials have become difficult to meet the requirements of safety, environmental protection and economy. Titanium reducers, as a new type of pipe connection component, have stood out in the chemical pipeline system with their outstanding corrosion resistance, lightweight design, and excellent fluid transition performance, becoming a "star material" that attracts attention in the industry.

The tolerance of titanium reducers to extreme corrosive environments

Comprehensive corrosion resistance guarantee

The corrosion rate in boiling hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and chlor-alkali media is less than 0.018mm per year, which is more than 15 times better than that of stainless steel. It is especially suitable for the transportation of strong corrosive media such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid.

The surface oxide film can self-repair and has outstanding resistance to pitting corrosion in an environment containing chloride ions, avoiding the risk of local perforation.

Compatibility with special media

The dry chlorine gas environment should maintain a moisture content of 0.5%; otherwise, it may cause combustion. The wet chlorine environment is completely stable.

The corrosion rate in organic acids and high-temperature alkaline solutions is controllable, but long-term contact with strong reducing acids (such as concentrated sulfuric acid) should be avoided.

Structural Performance and Lightweight Design

High-pressure load-bearing

The pressure-increasing and scouring part of the cone transition zone is thickened by 20%-30% to resist medium impact.

Lightweight

Density 4.51g/cm³ (57% of steel), reducing the load on the support and installation costs;

High-temperature stability

Long-term applicable temperature 300, short-term tolerance to 600 working conditions.

Long service Life and Economy

Extended service life: Under the same corrosive environment, the service life can reach more than 10 times that of stainless steel pipe fittings, reducing the frequency of replacement.

Low maintenance cost: No anti-corrosion coating required, reducing the frequency of cleaning.

System reliability: 100% passed eddy current testing/radiographic testing to avoid the risk of sudden leakage.

Key Points for Selection and Installation

Material matching principle

Conventional medium: TA2 (Gr2) is preferred as it offers high cost performance.

Hydrochloric acid/reducing acid: TA10 (Gr12, containing molybdenum-nickel alloy) should be used.

Requirements for structural reinforcement

When eccentric reducers are used in horizontal pipelines, the eccentricity should be marked to prevent gas accumulation.

Welding must match the grade (such as TA2 with TA2 pipe) to prevent interfacial corrosion of dissimilar materials.

Mandatory items for surface treatment

Pickling (HF/HNO) or electrolytic polishing to ensure the integrity of the passivation film and enhance the corrosion resistance of the weld zone.

Typical chemical application scenarios

Chlor-alkali industry

Reducer connection from electrolytic cell to concentration tower, resistant to dual corrosion of wet chlorine and alkaline solution.

Nitric acid plant

High-temperature (200) reducer in the concentration section, with a corrosion rate of TA2 material less than 0.1mm per year.

Seawater desalination

The inlet and outlet diameters of the high-pressure pump are changed to resist chloride ion corrosion and seawater erosion.

Design Warning

For strong scouring media, the wall thickness of the cone should be increased additionally, and the flow rate should be controlled to be 3m/s.
